Abstract

The terrestrial television service used in Ecuador is in analog format NTSC (National Television System Committee), but the television and broadcasting networks are making the necessary changes for the generation and delivery of the digital signal to users due to the analog switch-off that will take place in the coming years and thus make way for digital television and optimize services such as audio and video quality, have a programming guide, be able to receive the television signal on mobile devices. In the television channel Televicentro it is necessary to analyze the generation of the digital signal to monitor the modulation error rate and to know in which places the modulation error rate should be measured to compare the values and verify the quality of the signal. In the city of Quito, the analysis of the generation of the digital signal of the Televicentro channel has not been performed, because the channel is relatively new and has been on the air for more than two years and also due to security policies of the company. The analysis of the generation of the digital signal radiated in the ground station is carried out in order to make measurements to monitor the modulation error rate and with these data to verify the quality of the signal of the Televicentro de Quito channel. The modulation error rate is the parameter that quantifies the errors of a digital constellation, this factor facilitates to evaluate if a digital signal is good; the calculation of this factor in transmission implies the demodulation of the signal for the evaluation. In reception, this parameter is determined after the demodulation of the data reception itself. In both cases, it is necessary to use the normalized transmission constellation as a reference; the quality of the signal transmitted in the ground station of the Televicentro channel had an average value of 36.554dB and 34.38dB in the reception of the digital signal, with respect to the minimum value to be exceeded in this case of 23dB and reaching an optimum value of 40dB.
