Abstract

Throughout history, the consumption of alcohol has been socially accepted, but in recent times, it has generated more serious problems due to its excessive use and at increasingly younger ages. These problems include physical, psychological, and social damages such as cancerous diseases, cardiovascular disorders, and liver damage. In order to investigate this issue, a study was conducted to describe the various dimensions related to alcohol consumption and determine if there were significant relationships between gender and consumption, as well as between educational level. A quantitative cross-sectional methodology was employed, with a correlational approach and a probabilistic sample. A representative sample of 207 individuals was surveyed, selected from a group of 517 students in Early Education and Basic Education. The collected data was analyzed using the Chi-square hypothesis test. The obtained results revealed a statistically significant, albeit weak, relationship between gender and alcohol consumption. However, no significant relationship was found between educational level and alcohol consumption. In summary, it was concluded that frequent alcohol consumption among the university community carries a moderate to high risk of harmful consumption.
