Abstract

Sleep is an inseparable part of human health and life, it is essential for learning and practice, as well as for physical and mental health. The present research addresses the importance of exploring the relationship between sleep quality and academic performance in university students. This is a mixed research with a non-experimental cross-sectional approach and a descriptive correlational design whose sample is made up of 23 students from the University of Israel, Psychology major during July 2024. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (ICSP) test was applied and the Kardex of grades was obtained, the data were processed through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). It was determined that there is a statistically significant correlation between sleep quality and academic performance with a Pearson correlation of 0.012. The degree of correlation is -0.516 suggesting that there is an inversely proportional relationship. A correlation is evident between sleep quality and academic performance, this suggests a direct influence of sleep on the capacity for attention, memory and cognitive processing during academic activities. The results clarify the importance of sleep care in academic performance.
